Rectangular urban plots usually generate rectilinear plan-forms that tend to result in a stratified and compartmentalised domestic lives. Even without pandemic-induced isolations, this causes families in cities to experience dissociations within the home. Keen on creating a light-hearted and vivid home, our clients, a family of 5 with a youthful disposition, prioritised a lifestyle centred around coming together as a family. So for the design, the emphasis transferred from spaces for hosting guests to spaces for quality time together and for “metime” alone.
The red cast concrete walls to shafts of light from pitched skylights, the design attempts to infuse playfulness and gaiety into venerable material and minimalist lines.
The design creates spatial opportunities that scale from the individual to the familial through a composition of tapering, prismatic voids and volumes, and an expansive embrace of a large private garden.
